Dorothy Staebell Pack passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 8 at age 95.

Born on May 21, 1929, she was the beloved youngest child of Josephine and Frank Staebell.  She grew up and lived most of her life in Lancaster, New York.  A graduate of St. Mary's High School and Bryant and Stratton College, she was known for her intelligence, sweet disposition, and delightful wit.  She needed all three attributes to keep up with her five older siblings, whom she remembered fondly as the last surviving member of her generation of the family.

They, and her own family were the center of her life and her greatest joy. Her courage and determination were evident when she raised five children on her own after the death of her husband, John Derner, in 1957.

The late Cathie (Curt) Hoerbelt, Mary (Kevin) O'Brien, Janet (Bob) Bartkowiak, John (Sharon) Adolf, and Beth (Scott) Pitoniak will forever cherish their mother's loving kindness, strong character and unfailing devotion.  She was their guiding light and most steadfast supporter. Her children will never forget her delicious homecooked foods, her melodious voice singing tunes while she cleaned the house, and her undisputed title as the family Scrabble champion.

She loved to bowl and travel throughout the U.S. and Canada, tend her garden, devour mystery books, and try her luck at the casino, which she was able to enjoy for many years after her retirement from Westinghouse, where she worked in the accounting department.

She found love again later in life when she met and married the late Bob Pack, a Westinghouse co-worker.  Bob and his three children, Debbie Feger, Bob Pack, Jr., and Jim Pack were a welcome addition to her large family.

Dorothy adored her eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishements. She promised to watch over them until they meet again.

The whole family will cherish her memory and think of her when the lilacs bloom each spring, a cardinal flies across their path, and when Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are on.

The family will receive relatives and friends  from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 14th at Wendel & Loecher Inc. Funeral Home, 27 Aurora St., Lancaster. A funeral mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday , January 15 th at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
