John C. Wood, Jr., of Selkirk, New York, formerly of Cheektowaga, NY,
entered into rest at home on April 26, 2026.
John was born in Saranac Lake, NY on May 9, 1948. He was a graduate
of Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Connecticut and attended
Canisius University. John enjoyed over 40 years of service on the
railroad with New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and CSX in
Buffalo and Selkirk, NY. He was the fourth generation of the Wood
family employed by the Adirondack Division of the New York Central.
John was an Apple computer aficionado and family ancestry researcher,
tracing his family lineage prior to the 1200s. He had a deep passion for
railroading, reading and military history.
He is survived by his brothers, Steven (Laura) Wood, Mark (Mary)
Wood, and Bryan (Lori) Wood, and numerous nieces and nephews. He
is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Marie (Berwart)
Wood of Amherst, NY, and his niece, Amanda Wood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at
10:00am at Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Cheektowaga, NY,
followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kenmore, NY.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the church prior to the Mass.
