Roger Leroy Russ, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on January 22, 2025. He was born on November 18, 1942, to Leroy and Emma Russ in Buffalo, NY. Roger lived a life defined by faith, service, and an unwavering love for his family.

Roger was the devoted husband of Linda, his beloved wife of 56 years, and a proud father to his three daughters: Stephanie (Joseph IV) Jaegers, Susan (Joseph) Kopack, and Erin (Brian) Stachowiak. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Erika, Megan, and Katie Jaegers; Samuel and Addison Stachowiak; and Myles Kopack, each of whom he adored beyond measure.

A skilled craftsman, Roger dedicated his career as a school carpenter for Lancaster Central Schools, where his meticulous work and strong work ethic left a lasting mark. His dedication to his trade was matched only by his commitment to his faith. A lifelong member of the New Apostolic Church, Roger served as a minister in various congregations throughout the region, offering guidance, support, and a steadfast example of faith in action.

Roger played an instrumental role in building churches across the United States and spearheaded two significant building projects in the islands of the Philippines. His hands shaped places of worship, but more importantly, his heart helped build communities rooted in faith and fellowship.

From an early age, Roger developed a deep love for all things train related. This passion only grew over the years as he collected model trains and, with careful dedication, built a scale model that filled an entire room. He was immensely proud of this accomplishment, finding great joy in perfecting every detail of his miniature world.

Roger will be remembered for his unshakable honesty—"honest as the day is long"—and his unmistakable zest for life. With Roger, you never had to wonder where you stood; his straightforward nature was both refreshing and deeply respected. He faced life with a clear heart, a strong will, and a spirit that lifted those around him.

While his absence leaves a profound void, his legacy of love, integrity, and service will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His family finds comfort in knowing that his faith carried him home, where he is at peace.

A Memorial service will be held at The New Apostolic Church, 1049 Losson Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14227 on Saturday, February 8 at 12:00 pm to celebrate Roger's incredible life. Visiting with the family will take place in the vestibule of the church from 10:00-11:30am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of Buffalo or Roswell Park Cancer Institute, organizations that provided compassionate care during his final days.
