Obituary

William T. Gilligan, 69, of Lancaster, New York passed away on October 19, 2024 after a long and brave battle with cancer.Bill was born June 1, 1955 in Middletown, Ohio.  He graduated from Burrell High School in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania and went on to study Political Science at Ohio University.  He enjoyed a 32 year successful career as a Senior Key Account Executive and Category Manager with Pepsi-Cola Buffalo Bottling.In 1982 Bill literally married the girl next door, Lynne Marie (née Voegele), and they recently celebrated 42 years of a loving marriage. He was a devoted father to their daughter Kelly (Ronald) Roque. Bill is predeceased by his sister Mary Ellen Gilligan.  In addition to his wife, Lynne, and their daughter, Kelly, he is survived by his mother, Janet Gilligan; brother Thomas P. (Marita) Gilligan; sisters Kathleen Chadsey, Eileen Kennedy, and Colleen Helwig; and son in law Ronald Roque.

Bill was a sports enthusiast of the highest order.  A Buffalo Bills season ticket holder since 1976, he attended nearly 500 games and almost as many tailgates.  He was also an avid fan of Notre Dame football and the New York Yankees.  A rock 'n' roll lover, Bill attended countless concerts including 18 Bruce Springsteen performances.

Bill was known to his family and friends for his kindness, humility, intellect, and sharp political opinions.  He enjoyed his many cats and dogs over the years andalways looked forward to planning the annual golf tournament in Sharon, Pennsylvania for his friends, a tradition he led for 30 years.There are no formal services planned, however, we will continue to celebrate Bill's life and cherish our endless happy memories and the positive impact on those he touched so deeply.
